Thank you for sharing, Mihai.

I am definitely going to hold unto advice 5 and 6. I will play the game that is required as well as leave my comfort zone in order to get the career growth I want.

Is it going to be easy? Definitely not but I am willing, ready and able to put in the work.

Welcome! I'm glad you find this content inspiring and you're setting up a plan for your goals.

Of course, it's only easy when looking back. And it's insanely relieving know you can repeat the experience any time if you want/need.

Very insightful piece.

The big takeaway for me is to always look on the positive side of any opportunity to grow that might seem very challenging.

Thank you Mihai.

Thanks Chizaram, I'm happy I was able to provide this takeaway. Once I realised this, everything I approached went better. The downsides are not as big as they initially appear and you're most likely not the first person that had to go through them and solve them.

A very motivating and nicely written article!

Big tech companies are also starting to appear in Romania, do you think that the culture of these companies in Romania is to the same level as in other more developed countries like Ireland, UK, Switzerland, the US, etc.

Do you think you would have gotten the same level of personal and professional growth at a Romanian branch of one of these companies?

Thanks!

Thanks Zsolt!

I personally believe no.

For a couple of reasons:

1. The most exciting projects and growth opportunities will always happen closer to where the top leadership is. That's true not only for big tech, it applies to any large corporation. That's not to say that there are no interesting projects in local branches, but it doesn't compare to what's available at the headquarters.

2. More varied work guarantees also more promotions given that you can much easier pick something that can match your strengths easily.

3. The culture is defined by people. So in Romania, you will feel the Romanian working culture. In Dublin, I felt the Irish working culture. With all the pros and cons. Of course, the HQ (US) working culture will be "in the air", but there will not be many people to enforce it.
